Chat Setup Guide
Please Note: Phreadom will make a better Chat page with more information, but in the meantime, here is the lowdown.
Chat of choice: Jabber
Basically you have to:
- Download a Jabber software:
- Windows: www.pandion.be.
- Macs: http://www.adiumx.com
- Run Pandion (probably similar for adiumx too!)
- Click 'Sign Up'
- Server is 'chat.thejapanesepage.com'
- Use your TJP username for 'name' and your TJP password for 'password'
- Login and join a conference room!
The other option is to use Flashchat. Flashchat is much easier to setup (just click), but less powerful and flexible. We highly recommend Jabber, but for a quick chat or if you are on a public computer, Flashchat may be your best choice:
2) Flashchat (Who's in the Flashchat?)
I'll leave the bottom information up for now. Phreadom will update this soon
Ye Old Chat Program: |
The Great 'How do I get on the Chat' Page
We will integrate the chat program with this new server ASAP. Until then, please use the above links to use the chat. This page outlines just how to join the chatting! (Windows Machines) by Zen-san
Download Pandion from www.pandion.be.
Start Pandion and enter your account information.
- Address: (your TJP username)@chat.thejapanesepage.com -- Replace any spaces with a 'period' or a 'plus sign'. For example: "Charlie Brown" becomes "Charlie+Brown@chat.thejapanesepage.com" or "Charlie.Brown@chat.thejapanesepage.com".
- Password: (your TJP password)

Click Log In and the main window will appear.

Use the menu and go to 'Actions -> Join a Conference Room...'

Click on the room you wish to join.

You're now ready to chat!

If you are still confused, want more choices or have other operating systems, please take a look at this page.
Pandion Help: I'm on Pandion now and I think you should mention to Pandion users that they should change the font to MS Gothic / MSゴシック from the (default) Arial or their Japanese text will not be readable by some users.
Hopefully that is all there is to it, Please post comments or questions here and we will revise this page as needed.

Sorry! I removed the old links. You have to download a Jabber software (see links at top). Once you do that, chatting is easy. (Even I can do it!)

Jabber using iChat
Has anyone been successful getting the jabber setting of iChat to work with the chat.thejapanesepage.com settings?
It seems to nearly log on but then asks me for my password again and again, even though I know it's correct.
I'm missing the chat and would welcome any help.....

Vista
Hello,
Thought I'd try the Pandion chat download, mostly out of curiosity at the moment :) It's not working for me on Vista, I've even tried using the server info chat.thejapanesepage.com in the settings but it's saying that either the password is wrong or the account doesn't exsist on the server.
Can anyone help?
Do I need to sign up for an account first using celticflower@chat.thejapanesepage.com and my TJP password to as the log in isn't working? Or is this a Windows Vista problem?
Or is it just not ready yet?
Thanks :)

It is up. You might need to sign-up on the server again.
Please use Pandian in the
Please use Pandian in the meantime. I hope in within the next few weeks, we will have the forum, chat, and video sections fixed. Sorry for the trouble!
What's going to happen?
I've been hearing a lot of different things lately. Some people say that you won't ever be able to connect to the chat using a jabber client again. Some people say that it's being worked on. So my question is, will you be able to connect to the chat sometime in the future with jabber clients such as Pandion again? I don't have anything against the reimplementation of the flash chat but I don't feel like chatting too often unless I can use a reliable jabber client instead of an integrated browser chat. So can you shed some light on the issue? Will we be able to connect to the chat with a jabber client again?
We'll have to ask Zen about
We'll have to ask Zen about that since it was on his server. I am pretty ignorant about chatting, but I remember the huge fuss when we took down flashchat the last time :)
I'm sure we can work out something.
New chat not so new
I'm finding that a lot of people including myself aren't liking the "new" chat. I for one prefer Pandion. It may not be the easiest for new members to get started, but with help from the site and from members, I think it's the best system.
