趣味は何ですか? shumi wa nan desu ka? What is your hobby?

趣味 shumi means 'hobby' and the wa makes it the main topic.

何ですか? nan desu ka? What is it?

趣味はカラオケです。 shumi wa karaoke desu. My hobby is karaoke

Notice the 'my' is understood in the context.

In the next lesson, we will explore other common hobbies.

maybe it's already understood that u sing in a karaoke, but that's a good question..

i wonder if it's the same w/... "Shumi wa eiga desu" ?
or this one needs specifying..?

You can say "shumi wa eiga

You can say "shumi wa eiga desu." but the listener may not know if you mean you like to watch or make movies.

You can say something like 映画をみるのが趣味です。 (eiga o miru no ga shumi desu (or suki desu)) or 趣味は映画鑑賞です。 (shumi wa eigakanshou desu.)

The "singing" is implied in karaoke, so you can just say: "shumi wa karaoke desu."
