  • 日本人(にほんじん) ni hon jin – a Japanese person [simply add a “jin” after many countries]
  • 大人(おとな) otona – adult; a grown-up [this is an irregular reading]
  • 外国人(がいこくじん) gai koku jin – foreigner
  • 美人(びじん) bi jin – a beautiful woman
  • 宇宙人(うちゅうじん) u chuu jin – a space alien

Example Sentence:

あなたは美人(びじん)です。

anata wa bijin desu.
You are a beautiful woman.

  • あなた you
  • 美人 beautiful woman [美 (beautiful) 人 (person); while it uses 人 (person) instead of 女 (woman), this always refers to a woman and not a man.]
