Kanji Parts:

  • 一 (one; ceiling)
  • 白 (white) or 日 (sun with a dot on its head)

Mnemonics: 

  1. If you turn it on its side, it looks like 100.
  2. I had to paint my dirty ceiling 一 with white 白 paint a hundred times.

Stroke Order:

Examples:

  • 二百 ni hyaku – 200
  • 三百 san byaku – 300 [note: sound changes to a harder “b” sound]

Example Sentence:

ええと、百人(ひゃくにん)くらいきました。

eeto, hyakunin kurai kimashita.
Let’s see… About a hundred people came.

  • ええと umm; let me see...
  • 百 hundred
  • 人 person; people
  • くらい about [this is sometimes ぐらい after certain sounds]
  • きました came [past polite of くる (to come)]
