MEANING: to cross each other; to clash; to differ

EXAMPLE SENTENCE:

会議では、社長と専務の意見が食い違った。

かいぎでは、しゃちょうとせんむのいけんがくいちがった。
At the meeting, the company president and managing director didn’t see eye to eye.

NOTES:
Literally, this means “to eat differently”; this could be referring to the “teeth” or cogs not lining up well in a gearbox.
