Kanji: 三 san three

Three lines = 3

JLPT N5: 3 / 100 | 3 Strokes

On: サン
Kun: みっ・つ

Mnemonics: Three lines for number three. While still easy, technically, 三 is three times the difficulty of 一.

Stroke Order:
Write the three strokes from top to bottom. Remember, the middle is shorter.

  • (さん) three
  • 三角(さんかく) triangle
  • 三月(さんがつ) March [the 3rd month]

I’m going to Japan in March.

  • 三月(さんがつ) March [the months are easy in Japanese: a number + gatsu]
  • に in (March)
  • 日本(にほん)に to Japan [notice the different meaning of the two に particles; they both show direction of some kind: in March and to Japan]
  • ()きます to go [polite form of ()く (to go)]

5 of 5 stars

I have studied Japanese more than 30 years ago. However, I did not practice it over the years. I found this advertised on my Facebook and got curious about it and I purchased it since it's not very expensive. I did not regret purchasing it as I felt that the materials are easy to understand and would be good to help me refresh on the language.❞ - William | Singapore
