おじいさんの家(いえ)にいきましょう。Let’s go to grandfather’s house.

日本語(にほんご)をおしえてください。Please teach me Japanese.

【おそい】Slow　
私(わたし)は歩(ある)くのが遅(おそ)いです。I walk slow.

おととしから日本語(にほんご)を勉強(べんきょう)しています。I’ve studied Japanese since the year before last.

【おとな】Adult　
おとなになったらなにになりたいですか？What do you want to be when you grow up (become an adult)?

【おなか】Stomach　
おなかがすきました。I’m hungry (my stomach is empty).

【おなじ】Same　
あの人(ひと)とおなじものをください。Please give me the same thing as that person.

【おにいさん】Older brother　
おにいさんと遊(あそ)びましょう。(said to younger boy) Let’s play together. [Lit. Let’s play with older brother .  Referring to oneself in the third person is often done when speaking kindly to children]

おねえさんと歌(うた)いましょう。(said to younger girl) Let’s sing together. [see above]

【おばさん】Aunt　
おばさんが亡(な)くなりました。My aunt past away.

【おばあさん】Grandmother　
私(わたし)のおばあさんは元気(げんき)です。My grandmother is doing well.

【かど】       Corner; edge 
つくえの角(かど)に頭(あたま)をぶつけました。(I) bumped by head on the corner of the desk.

【かばん】a Bag   
あなたのかばんはどれですか？Which bag is yours?

【かびん】a Vase   
かびんに花(はな)をいれてください。Please insert the flower in the vase.

【かぶる】Wear; put on (the head)
ひざしが強(つよ)いので、帽子(ぼうし)をかぶりましょう。The sun is pretty strong so let’s wear a hat.

【かみ】       Paper 
 覚(おぼ)えられないので、紙(かみ)にかきます。I can’t remember, so I’ll write it on paper.

【からい】Hot, spicy

【からだ】Body 　
体(からだ)は丈夫(じょうぶ)です。(My) body is in good shape.

【かりる】Borrow 
 図書館(としょかん)で、本(ほん)を借(か)りました。I borrowed a book from the library.

【～がる】Want, (wish, desire, hope) to do; tends to do...
 あの人(ひと)は、人(ひと)のものをほしがります。That person tends to want other people's things. 人(ひと)の嫌(いや)がることをします。(He) tends to do things to upset people.

【かるい】Light (weight) 
この箱(はこ)は、軽(かる)いです。This box is light.

【カレー】Curry 
 辛(つら)いカレーが食(た)べたいです。I’d like to eat spicy curry.

【カレンダー】Calendar  
そこのカレンダーを見(み)てください。Please look at this calendar.

【かわ】       River  
川(かわ)が流(なが)れています。The river is flowing.

【～がわ】a Side  
日本海側(にほんかいがわ)　Coast of the Japan Sea;　レストランは右側(みぎがわ)にあります。The restaurant is on the right.

【かわいい】Cute  
あそこにかわいい猫(ねこ)がいます。Over there is a cute cat.

【かんじ】Kanji, Chinese character  
たくさんの漢字(かんじ)をおぼえましょう。Let’s  study a lot of kanji.

【きいろ】Yellow 　
バナナは、黄色(きいろ)です。 Bananas are yellow.

【きいろい】Yellow (before nouns) 
これは、黄色(きいろ)い花(はな)がさきます。This is a flower that blooms yellow.

【きえる】Disappear; go out 
 低電(ていでん)で電気(でんき)が消(き)えました。The lights went out due to a power outage.
